TRAX Head Coach - Shirley Nilsson
I obtained my first Weimaraner, Isaiah, in 1993 and immediately set out to train him for the many activites that Weimaraners are capable of and together we learned about conformation showing, obedience, fieldwork, search and rescue and tracking. Since that time my love of the breed and my enjoyment in dog training for the various competitive events and for real life hunting has continued unabated.
I became a breeder in the year 2000 breeding first under the Regen prefix and currently under the TRAX kennel name and have been collaborating extensively with like-minded breeders and crossing show, field and German bloodlines as I work towards the goal of producing beautiful, willing dogs with tremendous natural field ability and dual champion prospects.
The foundation bitch for my kennel was Ruby, a truly great dog in all respects who in due time became the most titled Weimaraner in the history of the breed with well over 50 titles to her credit, and Championships and advanced titles in every competitve discipline. Ruby made Weimaraner history by earning Show, Field and Obedience Championships to become the breed's first AKC Triple Champion Weimaraner along with earning advanced titles in tracking, agility and retrieving competition, best of all she was a tremendous real life hunting dog for both upland and waterfowl and her enthusiastic, positive nature made her a true joy to live with.
Ruby not only excelled in competition but also as a producer where she has set records, being to date the only Weimaraner to have produced Show, Agility, Obedience, Tracking, Field Champion, Dual, Triple, Quadruple and Quintuple Champion offspring. Ruby has been awarded both Field Register of Merit and Bench Register of Merit designations from the Weimaraner Club of America arising from the success of her offspring in Field and Show competition.
Producing generations of successful working and competition dogs that are a pleasure to live and work with is both my passion and also a monumental task requiring a team effort. I remain eternally grateful to all of the players on the TRAX team; these TRAX dog owners are a pleasure to work with and their contributions are immense.
I have a sideline interest in photography and have taken most of the photographs on the TRAX website. I live in BC, Canada, with my terrific husband Sly who is an avid hunter, along with several descendents of my foundation bitch, Ruby.
TRAX Master Trainers - Cindy Cerne, Megan Bastien and Judy Owen
While all owners of TRAX dogs in competition are extremely capable dog trainers in their own right, these expert TRAX trainers have been instrumental in getting new puppy owners off to the right start with their pups training, providing advanced training, support and mentoring to competition dogs in their regions.
TRAX Puppy Division - Cindy Trent
If you have a Trax dog, there's a very good chance that the dog you're scratching behind the ear right now was brought into the world and reared by our human den mother, Cindy.
Puppies require endless day to day chores - feeding, cleaning, weighing, worming, toenail trimming, making observations and notes, exposure to a variety of environments, car rides, sights and sounds, swimming, bird wings and socialization to new people people and other dogs and pets; Cindy does all of this and then teaches her little charges to recall to a whistle and gets them started on obedience training, housebreaking and crate training. In addition, she is a top notch photographer, cook, gardener, and world-class quilter.
TRAX Team Veterinarian - Dr. Grace Anne Mengel DVM
Dr. Grace Anne Mengel, based in Pennsylvania, works in both equine and small animal practice and is the Trax Team veterinarian. Although of course we hope to never have to call upon her services, we are glad to have her expert help available should the need arise. Dr. Mengel is a member of the Weimaraner Club of America Health Committee.
TRAX Firepower
You can't make bird dogs without birds and gunners both in training and during hunting season. We are lucky to have the services of superior gunners both in the seasoned and young gun divisions. Thanks to this year's team of Tyler, Sly, Steve, Rick, Neil, Lee, Frank and Justin for doing a fantastic job, hope to see you all again next year.
TRAX Ornithology and Hunting - Dr. Paul James and Gary Lane
Our consultants for all matters related to upland and waterfowl hunting, shotguns, and game birds are Gary Lane, wildlife biologist and professional bird hunting guide based in Idaho where he hosts world class guided chukar hunts with his Weimaraners - www.doryfun.com/chukarhunting and Dr. Paul James, wildlife biologist with a specialty in ornithology and an avid longtime hunter, based in Saskatchewan. Paul and his wife Marilyn have been instrumental in the development of young Trax field prospects by hosting fantastic wild bird training camps and mentoring new bird hunters.
TRAX Graphic Design and IT
Anna Bartlett is the smart, creative and artistic gal who is responsible for TRAX website design and troubleshooting, answering our many IT questions, multimedia set-up and the creation of some pretty fantastic TRAX logos.
TRAX Equine Services
Our horses are invaluable partners in the creation of Field Champion Weimaraners. We ask a lot of our field trial horses - they must be absoutely safe around puppies no matter what, they must tolerate long trailer rides, gunfire, working away from other horses or amongst a crowd of strange horses, having live gamebirds tossed from their back in birdplanting, roading harnessed dogs for conditioning and being staked out overnight on a picket. Here are some of the Tennessee Walking horses we are currently using for training and trialing - Scooter, Shorty, Tex and Strider.
