Agility

In agility the handler guides their dog with voice commands and body languate around an obstacle course negotiating various types of jumps, tunnels, a hanging tire, a teeter-totter, an A-frame, a raised catwalk and weave poles.

In agility competition a judge sets the course for every trial and sets a standard course time - the reasonable time within which the competitors should be able to complete the course. The dog is run off leash and the jumps are set at the height of the dog at the shoulders. The dog is timed with points deducted for faults (missed or knocked down obstacles), or taking too long to negotiate the course. The dog with the lowest number of faults and the fastest time wins the class. However, all dogs successfully negotiating the course, meeting the standard course time and not exceeding the maximum allowable faults will earn a 'leg' toward an agility title.

Weimaraners love all the running and jumping involved in agility training and competition and agility is a great activity for older kids to do with the family dog. Agility participants are known for their camaraderie and sportsmanship and the emphasis they place on both the dogs and handlers having fun.
