Weimaraners are an active breed, needing lengthy periods of daily exercise, particularly between 1-3 years of age. They tend to be very bonded to and protective of their family. If raised with cats or other types of household pets, they generally can happily co-exist with them. Outdoors on walks or hikes Weimaraners tend to stay in close touch with their owners, however, they will have to be trained not to chase wildlife like squirrels or deer. Most Weimaraners love to swim and fetch. Weimaraners generally do best as house, rather than outdoor or kennel dogs, and they always do best if never spoiled and given obedience and manners training starting right from 8 weeks of age.
Each TRAX litter undergoes extensive puppy temperament and aptitude testing and conformation assessment between 7 and 8 weeks. This information is used to match pups to prospective homes. If you are interested in a puppy from a current or future TRAX litter, please email me at shirlsly@telus.net or call me, Shirley Nilsson, at 250-490-0750 Pacific Time zone, evenings after six are the best time to call.
If you haven't had a dog before, or haven't had one for a long time, please consider planning now - Where you will house the pup at night, in the car, when you are not at home, and when you are on vacation? How do you plan to introduce your new puppy to your children and other household pets or livestock you may have? How you plan to socialize and train your pup? Where you will get pet insurance or, alternately, how you would cope with the considerable veterinary expenses that can arise from an emergency call to repair a barbwire laceration or to surgically remove an object accidentally swallowed by your pup? How do you plan to exercise your puppy?
For those not wanting to start with a baby puppy, please inquire as older dogs and puppies are occasionally available from TRAX or through local Weimaraner rescue agencies.
